GETTING STARTED
What is a Detective Milo case?
A Detective Milo Interactive case is an interactive printable detective book where children solve a mystery by exploring clues, making decisions, and forming their own conclusions.
Is this a book, a game, or a worksheet?
It combines elements of all three.
It reads like a story, but children actively investigate and make decisions — turning reading into a structured thinking experience.
Is this a physical book?
No, this is a digital PDF download. For the best experience, we recommend printing it at home so your child can follow the case, flip between pages, and complete the activity away from screens.
USAGE & EXPERIENCE
How long does a case take?
Each case is designed to take about 30–45 minutes to complete in one focused session.
Why is printing recommended?
Detective Milo cases can be opened on a tablet, laptop, or other device, but we recommend printing for the best experience.
When children hold the pages, flip through the case, follow page directions, and move back and forth between clues, the activity feels more like a real investigation. This hands-on format can help children stay more focused and pay closer attention than simply scrolling on a screen.
Printing also makes the case a more complete screen-free activity, especially when your child is reading, thinking, writing notes, and solving the mystery step by step.
Why is writing or drawing part of the experience?
Detective Milo is not designed for children to only read the story from beginning to end. Each case encourages children to slow down, notice details, and record their thinking.
The Detective Notebook gives children space to write or draw:
- clues they found
- what suspects said
- details that seem unusual
- their own theory before the final answer
Writing and drawing help children remember the clues, connect ideas, and explain their reasoning. This is an important part of the Detective Milo experience.
Can my child use the case on a tablet instead?
Each case can be opened on a tablet, but we recommend printing for the best experience.
On a tablet, children may scroll ahead or accidentally see the answer too early.
Printing helps them follow the case step by step, flip between pages intentionally, write notes, and complete the Detective Notebook.
Can my child do it alone?
Yes. Cases are designed for independent reading and problem-solving.
Younger children may also enjoy solving the case together with a parent.
Do I need to prepare anything?
No preparation is needed.
Simply download, print, and start the case.
Is it reusable?
Yes. You can reprint the case anytime.
Children can also revisit it to improve their understanding.
AGE & DIFFICULTY
What age is Detective Milo suitable for?
Detective Milo is designed for children aged 4–8, with two versions for each case:
• Ages 4–6 — simpler language and clearer clues
• Ages 6–8 — deeper reasoning and more detailed investigation
What if my child finds it too difficult?
That’s completely normal.
You can guide them through the clues or solve the case together. The process of thinking is more important than getting the answer right.

LEARNING & VALUE
What skills does Detective Milo help develop?
Detective Milo helps children develop:
• Logical reasoning
• Observation skills
• Focus and patience
• Independent thinking
These are essential skills for problem-solving and learning.
Is this better than educational apps?
Detective Milo is not meant to replace all digital tools.
It provides a screen-free alternative that encourages deeper thinking, focus, and independent problem-solving.
PRINTING & USING THE CASE
Can the case be printed in greyscale?
Yes. Detective Milo cases can be printed in greyscale.
Some colours may appear in the story or clues, but the cases are designed to minimize the impact of colour. Important clues are usually supported by the story text, observations, and investigation details, not colour alone.
For regular use, greyscale or ink-saving mode is suitable.
Is printing expensive?
Printing cost depends on your printer, paper, and ink, but most home-printed cases should cost around US$2.50–US$4.00 per case in color mode, including paper and ink.
To reduce printing cost, we recommend:
- using ink-saving or draft mode
- printing in greyscale
- printing double-sided
- printing only selected pages if your child is using a device for reading
